Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2020
I have a special place in my heart for Nordstrom. I want to share with you why, but like all good stories I have to start at the beginning… how I discovered one of the most magical places on earth.
If you don’t know my moving history, I’ll sum it up for you… I lived in smaller towns before we moved to the great big city of Denver in 2013. Needless to say, said small towns did NOT have Nordstrom stores.
It was my first week at my first big girl job…I was decked out in freshly pressed khakis and the cutest red tops I could find… I was officially a Target pharmacist!
I didn’t know anyone in training but there were two blonde girls who seemed about my age and had an open seat near them. So I sat down and introduced myself. Later during a break, I overheard them talking about the “Anniversary Sale” and what items they wanted. I was confused by these terms, I though I knew about every sale around… semi-annual sale, BoGo, Gap Cash …
I inserted myself into the conversation and asked what was this glorious sale they were talking about. They told me it was Nordstrom’s once a year Anniversary Sale. And I said “What’s a Nordstrom?” The blondes were shocked and I immediately felt all my Alabamian-ness come to the surface.
After training that day, I googled mapped “Nordstrom” and lo and behold there was not one but TWO Nordstrom stores in my new city. I went to the one at Park Meadows Mall in Lonetree, a suburb south of Denver. I remember walking in and seeing all the curtains blocking off areas that had signs reading “Anniversary Sale Early Access.” So exclusive, so bouji. I had to get in.
I asked an associate how I could gain access to this mysterious sale. She said only “insiders” could shop early. My mind was blown. I had never needed a special status to spend my hard earned money before but man I was hooked. I needed to become an insider.
She politely explained the ways to have this status, one was to spend a certain amount at a Nordstrom within a year. Since this was my first day hearing about this place, that was off the table. The next way was to be a Nordstrom debit or credit card holder. Five minutes later, my social was given, my credit was ran, and I was the proud owner of a Nordstrom debit card!
The veil (okay curtain) was lifted, and I was in! I was an insider shopping the early access! I was so impressed and a little overwhelmed by how many beautiful things this new store had to offer. It was three stories of pure bliss. They carried the best brands but also had numerous of their own brands which were priced perfectly.
I remember seeing the normal price tags on the anniversary sale items and then a little perforated tab under that had the sale price. You may be wondering why this sale is so special or different than ordinary sales… well let me tell you! During the anniversary sale, Nordstrom launches their brand new fall pieces highlighting the upcoming season’s trends. They mark these items down BEFORE the season begins so you’re getting a deal on items that just hit the floor, not past season items or items where there might only be a couple sizes left. They also mark down some of their best sellers that never go on sale, like the Barefoot Dreams cardigans or the cult favorite faux leather Spanx leggings.
So my friends, this is how I was introduced to the beautiful world of Nordy. Fast forward 18 months and I found myself on maternity leave with my first son in the middle of winter in Colorado. I needed to get out of the house and be around civilization again. It was too cold to take a newborn outside for walks, so I found myself frequenting the same Nordstrom. I would be pushing my new bundle of joy around, soaking in all the “ooos and ahhh” from women gawking at my baby, and shopping.
I could get a Starbucks in the mall, then go to the plush “Mother’s Lounge” in the Nordstrom and feed Cedar while sipping my latte. It was fabulous.
So this is why Nordstrom holds a special place in my heart. I always will associate it with 1. My first week as a Pharmacist and 2. Postpartum adventures out with my first born.
The city we’re in now sadly doesn’t have a Nordstrom, there’s a rack… which is fine and all but it’s just not the same. Every time we’ve been back to Denver, I visit the same mall and same Nordstrom. It’s nostalgic for me. ..
So enough about my love affair with this department store! Let’s move on to the 2020 Anniversary Sale! This years sale dates are as follows:
