One Room Challenge: Week 6
It’s All In The Details
I always joke that I’m like Joanna at the end of the Fixer Upper episodes where she is left alone in the newly renovated home and she is giddy to be adding in the finishing touches!
Okay, all joking aside, I really want to be Joanna Gaines… but I mean who doesn’t?!?
I love this step because it’s when the room really gets sprinkled with pieces that make it uniquely yours! It’s like adding the jewelry to a fabulous outfit!!
I love the hunt, whether it be wandering the aisles at Home Goods looking for the perfect planter, or scrolling through amazon reading reviews picking out the best stapler (yes staplers can make me excited when they are navy with gold accents!)
The accents you chose can make a whole room feel tied together. They let your style and personality shine through!
I’m going to break down how I go about picking the finishing touches.
So, the first thing I consider is who will be using the space and how I want the space to feel. Do I want it to be Cozy? Fun? Sophisticated? Feminine? Masculine? Rustic? Glamorous? There are so many adjectives you could use here. But think about how you want the overall feel to be when you walk into the room.
For the office makeover, I knew my husband would be using it a lot. So I wanted it to have a masculine feel. But to keep it up my decor ally, I wanted to add fun pops of gold and “dressed up” accents.
Once I have the feel in mind, I make a list (usually in the notes app on my phone) of what I want to be on the hunt for.
For the office my list looked something like this
2 small matching chairs with sleek lines
throw pillows with texture
acrylic tray / pencil holder
gold desk accents
cement planter
gold photo frames
funky/fun office chair
So there you have it in a nutshell how I start adding the final touches to a project! I can’t wait to share more with you next week! And then finally the big reveal!
You can shop some of the accents I picked out for this room (including the prettiest stapler you’ve event seen) by clicking on the images below!
