Winter Home

Does your home feel a little naked after you take down all the Christmas decor? Ours sure does! The corner where the Christmas tree stood now looks like a giant piece of furniture should go there. I have to resist the urge to buy stuff to fill the emptiness and simply enjoy the simplicity of the rest of the winter season in out home.

I started something last year that I highly recommend, before I put out our Christmas decor, I “winterized” our home. Now that our Christmas decor is all packed away, we still have a base of winter accents that will take us right up until it’s time to bust out the spring items!

You may be wondering what’s the difference between Christmas decor and Winter decor. Well for starters if it says “Merry” “Jolly” “Silent Night” etc then it’s going to be strictly Christmas. For me, anything with glittery or sparkles is packed away in my Christmas boxes. I’ve left a few simple green trees around the house that seamlessly transition from winter, to Christmas, back to winter.

Another tip that I’ve implement is that I move decor around after Christmas to give spaces a fresh feel. Winter can feel like it drags on for many reasons, so changing things up in your home can at least breath life into your home until Spring. The above vase with white berry stems was placed on our entryway table for Christmas but now I’ve moved it to the mantle! I spent $0 but feels like a new piece!

Above is the “winter entryway.” I replaced the glittery wreath with a simple one that has pinecones and I tucked a faux fur blanket into the basket below. Adding blankets is a simple way to make your spaces feel cozy this time of year!

Speaking of pinecones, they make great staples for winter decor as well. These were purchased at Homegoods but you could easily forage your own and spray paint them lightly with gold to get the same look. Below the pinecones, I placed a small cedar wreath that gives the pinecones a base and adds in more texture.

Chunky throws add in so much warmth and texture as well! As for the bookshelves, I love keeping things simple but warm after Christmas. Wood tones, gold accents, and greenery are great options for this.

I want to say eucalyptus is a winter stem but I actually use it in all seasons. Each time I go to Trader Joe’s I can’t resist grabbing a $3 bunch.
