One Room Challenge: Week 4
I can’t believe that the One Room Challenge is over half way done!
The barn doors are installed and the shiplap is painted, but I want to save those to share with you until the reveal!
Today I’m going to be chatting all about office organization. The home office is the landing spot for all the paper that comes through the house. So getting a system in place for how to organize this necessary evil is a must!
I have a special guest today to help us! Alex is a Professional Organizer here in Birmingham! She has been my go to girl for all things organizing! She helped me get my pantry in order earlier this year. You can check that out here. And check out her website too!
Here’s what Mrs. Alex has to say about the office:
4 Tips for Office Organization
1. Make filing a habit. Paperwork can be daunting in an office so utilize some type of sorter to keep it straight. Magazine Holders or Stackable Letter trays work well.
2. It’s tempting to buy a random basket here or there but be mindful that the visual clutter can be easily eliminated by having similar containers.
3. Labels are crucial to help everyone know where items live.
4. Store your important documents all in one place. Keep the passports, birth certificates, house records, etc all together in one box for easy access.
So taking all of Alex’s tips and advice in consideration, I organized our office! I pulled out ever paper in every folder and went through it. Taxes from 2014… SHRED, Smith’s hospital records from his birth… filed under “Smith”, water bills from 2010… SHRED. I felt a weight lifted off once I knew exactly what was going back into the office with my new filing system.
I used my Cricut cutter to make labels for my new matching boxes and magazine holders. I got some pretty matching baskets for under the desk too since you see them right when you walk into the office. I was definitely guilty of picking up baskets here and there which led to visual clutter like Alex mentioned! I even got small organizers for inside the box labeled “supplies.” See photos below of all my organizational wins!
I went through all my books and only kept the ones I felt like I would read again or would love to loan to a friend. I am donating all the others to a garage sale for our friends adoption fundraiser. The ones we are keeping in the office, I lined up in rainbow order! It so happy and pretty… it also helps with that visual clutter we keep mentioning!
I feel like I can finally put the finishing touches on the office makeover now that everything has a place and is in its place! I will be sharing those with you next week! You can shop the item below that I used for my organizing! Thanks for reading about week 4 of my One Room Challenge.
